I do personal illustrations regularly. They are often playful and quirky with few requirements… It is a way for me to relax and have fun.

Once, I put myself in the shoes of a customer with special requirements and a graphics charter to comply with. It was an Illustration in isometrics with several components to integrate together! The tone was set. It was the creation by isometric illustration of a city with its loading port, a ship and its containers, a waste treatment plant, the drawing of a train station and its trains, buildings with stores and some high rises and means of transport such as cars and trucks and finally some green spaces.

 Actually I had already designed an isometric city but the issue I was facing was that it was perhaps a little too childish-looking, probably because of the choice of colors and the rounded shapes. As an illustrator, I wanted to show that I could make a flat and isometric representation for companies in need of B2B corporate communication.

I had also created isometric drawings of factories and houses for GRDF and the Lafarge group.

You should know that isometric drawing requires a great mastery of the software, Illustrator, and a lot of patience too because its realisation takes a long time and sometimes you need reference images.

It is almost impossible to make an isometric ‘plane’ cut out if you don’t have any photos of what you need to draw beforehand. In conclusion, if you need an isometric illustration, you should make sure you perfect a very specific graphic charter first. It’s also advisable to collect reference photos / images.

For this project, and before diving head first into my computer, I took some time to make a sketch, 2 days to be precise. This preliminary rough sketch allowed me to arrange the different elements correctly before using Illustrator. I took a few liberties with the sketch to fill in some spaces and add a few elements. This allowed me to have a complete illustration, full of smaller elements.

This isometric illustration or isometry consists of creating a kind of 3d volume. I thus designed a city in isometrics with different buildings, but also some characters. I didn’t start from an initial sketch as I usually do, but directly from my computer with my tablet and my adobe software. This type of illustration is a good fit for  the real estate industry or green or sustainable city projects.

The illustration of cities or environments with characters requires a brief beforehand. However, as an artistic director, I will be able to guide you on the different elements that can eventually be integrated into the illustration. For this type of illustration the deadlines can vary depending on the complexity of your request, the illustration style, the target, but also the number of characters. Indeed, the more the characters performing an activity there are, the more complex the illustration becomes. You should also consider the context of use  (print support, web…).
